Houshold Appliance Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend your appliance ’s lifespan, saving you future repair costs, and getting the most out of your home investment. Follow these tips to keep your home appliances in top shape, and avoid having to call the appliance repair service company.

Take advantage of modern appliances’ “Self-Clean” features.

Many modern ovens, washing machines, dishwashers and more come equipped with a self-cleaning option. Run a complete cleaning cycle at least once a month to get rid of any debris, grime, clogs, or musty smells. If your dishwasher does not have a self clean option, try placing a cup of white vinegar in a dishwasher safe container and wash through a hot-water cycle.

Do not forget about the filters!

Many of our household appliances are designed with filters that trap lint, dust, and other impurities. The clothes dryer lint filter should be checked at least after every couple of loads. This will make the dryer more efficient and avoid fire hazards! If your refrigerator has a water dispenser, it will likely also have a water filter. This should be checked periodically in order to avoid potentially harmful water.

Check and maintain the seals!

The doors of refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers and washers/dryers all have rubber seals. These seals are designed to ensure the doors properly close (and seal) the heat in ovens, dishwasher and dryers; the water in washers, and the cold in refrigerators. You should check for any broken sections, deformities, or torn areas in the seal. Without a proper seal, these appliances are not optimized for their use.
